MARC Service Shut Down Monday As Sandy Nears

MARC train service will be suspended Monday, Maryland Transit Administration officials announced Sunday evening.

The move was made as Hurricane Sandy neared Maryland, bringing with it high winds and rain. In the alert emailed to riders, officials said they had been consulting with MARC operators Amtrak and CSX and "all share the same concern that the deteriorating weather conditions will have a significant impact on afternoon operations."

The MTA's commuter buses will also be out of service.

The first rains from the storm began to impact Maryland Sunday night, and National Weather Service projections say rain could continue in the area through Wednesday.

The alert said officials will decide whether or not to cancel services for Tuesday by 8 p.m. on Monday.
