Forecast: Up to 10 Inches Snow Could Fall in Essex by Wednesday

Wednesday will be filled with snow, rain and wind with 3-8 inches of snow expected to stack up during the day, and some more at night.

Parts of the Baltimore area already had about 3 inches of rain and snow overnight, but more snow, up to 11 inches in some communities, could fall by Wednesday night.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the larger region: the Baltimore and Washington area, through 3 a.m. Thursday, when as much as 12 inches of snow could fall, according to the National Weather Service.

"Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous," the warning states. "Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency."

But locally, up to 11 inches could accumulate: about 3 to 8 inches during the day, plus up to 3 inches more through Wednesday night, according to the forecast for the Baltimore area.

Following are the forecasts for local communities, as of 10:45 a.m.:

Baltimore Gas and Electric officials are planning for hundreds of thousands of outages. Report outages on the utility's website, or call 877-778-2222.

Baltimore County will be posting snow removal updates and other information on its @BACOEmergency Twitter feed. City officials will be doing the same on the Office of Emergency Management Twitter account.

Keep tabs on the roads using Patch's commute page.

Forecasts tell only part of the story. What's happened in your neighborhood? Are you surprised that there's so much snow, even though Tuesday was a beautiful, relatively clear day? What do you think: Will we get the maximum snow that's forecast? Tell us in the comments.
