County Council: Planning Board Should Consider Pet Chickens

The Baltimore County Council asked the planning board to reconsider rules that restrict ownership of chickens in residential areas.

Residents in Baltimore County neighborhoods could wake up to the sounds of rooster calls in the near future.

On Tuesday, the Baltimore County Council requested, at the urging of some residents, the planning board change its restrictions on residential fowl ownership, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Currently, zoning regulations require people have an acre of land in order to own chickens and other fowl, reports The Sun.

But not everyone is happy about the proposition of residential poultry.

Councilman John Olszlewski Sr. told The Sun he is concerned the chickens could lead to problems with neighbors who don't find the pets so likable.
