Police: Man Killed in Essex Hit-and-Run

Investigators believe the driver fled after striking a man Friday night on Old Eastern Ave.

A man was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Essex on Friday night, police announced Saturday morning.

At 8:12 p.m. on Aug. 17, a 911 caller and his friend reported that they had found a man lying in the roadway near Old Eastern Avenue and Stemmers Run Road. Crews found the victim at Old Eastern Ave and St. Stephens Lane and transported him to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where he later died, according to a press release.

Police identified the victim as 55-year-old Dennis John Flury, with no fixed address.

Investigators believe that Flury had been lying in the roadway at Old Eastern Ave and St. Stephens Lane, when an unknown vehicle struck him and fled the scene. The vehicle may have damage to the lower front bumper and undercarriage, according to police.

An investigation by the Baltimore County Police Crash Team is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call police at 410-887-0220 or 410-307-2020.
