Police: Essex Barricade Situation Over; Man in Custody

A man has been taken into custody by Baltimore County police officials after the successful resolution of the situation.

Baltimore County police personnel have successfully resolved a barricade situation that occurred Thursday in the 300 block of Riverside Drive in Essex.

Police officials first announced the situation via a post on Twitter around 1:30 p.m.

Police were dispatched to the home at about 12:20 p.m. after receiving a call reporting a suicidal individual at the home, according to police spokeswoman Cpl. Cathy Batton.

Family members told officers the 21-year-old man was threatening to harm himself and was also threatening to burn down the home, according to Batton.

Negotiators and tactical units responded and began attempts to resolve the situation peacefully, Batton said in a statement.

At about 7:20 p.m., the man surrendered to tactical officers and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Criminal charges are pending.
