Pilot Flips Plane at Martin State Airport

No injuries reported following the single aircraft accident.

A student pilot refused medical treatment after his plane rolled off a runway and flipped Wednesday afternoon at Martin State Airport in Middle River, a Baltimore County Fire Department spokesman said.

The accident occured around 1 p.m. when the unidentified student pilot - the only person in the aircraft - began to taxi the runway, Maryland Aviation Adminstration spokeswoman Lynda Warehime said. The pilot then veered off in a grassy area before flipping the aircraft, a 1982 Cessna Skyhawk registered to Phoenix Aviation.

Warehime said she was unsure whether the pilot was taking off or landing. She added that Federal Aviation Administration officials inspected the runway and cleared the airport for business.
