Police Identify Woman Struck and Killed By Train in Rosedale

The Rosedale woman was killed less than a mile from her home and near the site of the May 28 derailment that resulted in two CSX freight cars exploding.

UPDATED (9:06 p.m.)—Baltimore County police have identified a woman who was struck by a train and killed  in Rosedale Friday afternoon.

April Marie Jones, 22, of the 7900 block of Oakdale Avenue in Rosedale, was walking along the tracks shortly after 4 p.m., according to a statement issued by Ofc. Shawn Vinson, a police spokesman.

A CSX freight train struck Jones near the intersection of Batavia Farm Road and Duvall Avenue about a mile from her home. The train stopped about 100 yards from the intersection near the Chesaco Avenue bridge.

Jones was declared dead at the scene. The incident appears accidental, Vinson said.

The intersection where Jones was struck is just over a mile away from where a train derailed and exploded on May 28.

In that incident, John J. Alban Jr. was driving his trash hauling truck across the tracks when it was hit by a train. Several cars subsequently derailed and exploded.

CSX has filed a federal lawsuit citing negligence on the part of Alban and his trash hauling company.

Alban also faces seven misdemeanor traffic violations related to the accident.

The National Transportation Safety Board continues to investigate the derailment.
