Police ID Middle River Man Who Set Self on Fire After Standoff

The victim told 911 operators he wanted to kill himself, police said.

(UPDATED, 11:25 a.m.) Baltimore County police have identified Kenneth Leon Grubb, 58, of the unit block of Clearwater Court in Bowleys Quarters as the man who committed suicide by setting himself on fire following a standoff with officers Friday morning, according to a Baltimore County Police Department news release.

Police responded to the Grubb's home on the unit block of Clearwater Court at about 10:20 a.m. after he told 911 operators that he wanted to kill himself. Officers on the scene used a stun gun to try and bring the man, who was standing at an open window, under control, according to the police.

According to the release, the man recovered from the stun gun and moved deeper into the house. Police then entered the house and witnessed Grubb setting himself on fire, the release continued.

It took fire crews 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze in the house and the man was declared dead at the scene.
