Man Killed in Essex Home Invasion

The dead man is one of two suspects who invaded an Essex home with the intent to rob the resident, according to police officials.

Baltimore County police are investigating an overnight home invasion in Essex that resulted in a man being killed.

The invasion and robbery attempt occurred in the 1400 block of Strawflower Road off Back River Neck Road.

Police responded to the scene at 1:20 a.m. Sunday morning for the report of a shooting, according to police spokesman Lt. Robert McCullough.

Upon arriving, police discovered that a home invasion robbery had occurred in which two suspects forced their way into the apartment building home of the victim.

The resident and one of the suspects got in to an altercation, and the suspect shot the resident several times, according to McCullough.

The victim was then able to grab a blunt object of some sort and hit the suspect in the head, killing him, McCullough said.

The second suspect then fled the apartment.

The resident of the apartment was taken to a local hospital in serious but stable condition, according to McCullough.

The dead suspect's identity is not yet known and the identity of the apartment resident is not being released at this time.
