How's Your Power Holding Up, Essex?

A BGE graphic shows that, as of 3 p.m., many area outages are in northern Baltimore City and central and northern Baltimore County.

It started with only a handful Monday morning, but as we head into Monday afternoon, Hurricane Sandy is starting to wreak its havoc on residents.

The graphic to the right, taken from BGE's storm outage map, shows the outage situation as of 4:06 p.m. Monday.

About 34,671 customers are without power, including 11,000 in Baltimore County, as of that latest update. Many of them, according to the graphic, appear to be inside the Beltway and up the Interstate 83 corridor. Most residents in eastern Baltimore County appear to have escaped major power damage thus far.

But that most assuredly will change. The utility has said to expect hundreds of thousands of outages as the worst of the storm arrives tonight and into Tuesday. BGE officials have also said not to expect an individualized restoration time if and when when your power does go out during this storm.
