Essex Crime: Teen Caught Breaking into Home

A 17-year-old boy was arrested after trying to break into a man’s house early on Dec. 30 in Middle River.

According to police reports, officers allege the boy was caught trying to enter a home on the 2100 block of Old Orems Road through a front window when the resident caught him.

The victim told police the boy said he was looking for someone named “Paul” who owed him money for drugs before he ran to his car and drove away.

Police caught the suspect a short time later and the victim positively indentified him. The boy was later released into the custody of his mother, according to police reports.

Ashbridge Drive, 900 block, between 8 and 11:45 a.m. Jan. 4: A laptop computer, an iPod and costume jewelry were stolen from an apartment after someone pried open the front door. Total loss: $1,750.

Nicolay Way, 1400 block, between 2 p.m. Jan. 3 and 12:50 a.m. Jan. 4: Someone entered a home through a basement window and stole $700.

Silver Lane, 2200 block, between 8:40 a.m. and 9 p.m. Jan. 3: A 14-karat gold ring, diamond earrings, costume jewelry, a watch and bracelet were stolen from a home. Total loss: $2,145.

Holly Neck Road, 1800 block, between 12 p.m. Dec. 26 and 4 p.m. Dec. 30: A large amount of copper piping and wire was stolen from a home. The victim told police that he was in the process of moving out and does not live there anymore. Total loss: $3,500.

Wilson Point Road, 800 block, between 8 p.m. Dec. 28 and 7 a.m. Dec. 29: A coin box to a washing machine was pried open at an apartment complex.  No money was in the box at the time. Total loss: $500.

Eiffel Court, unit block, between 6 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 28: Three laptop computers, an iPhone and $5 cash were stolen after someone entered a home through a rear window. Total loss: $1,225.
