Essex Crime: Store Owner's Gun Used to Fire 'Warning Shot' at Robbers

The handgun used by the Oak Grove Liquors store employee to f was registered to the store’s owner, according to reports from the Baltimore County Police Department.

According to reports, the store employee retrieved the handgun from behind the cash register and chased after the suspects, who were last seen running down the unit block of Oak Grove at about 10:30 a.m. on Saturday with $150 they had stolen.

Following the robbery, the storeowner provided police documentation, which proved he was the registered owner of the handgun fired by the employee. Police collected the handgun as the investigation continues.

Recent crimes reported to the Essex Precinct:

Old Orems Rd., 2100 block, Sept. 26. An unknown male suspect used a large rock to smash a glass door to enter around 4 a.m. Surveillance footage showed the suspect damaged a cash register and lottery machine looking for money. Once he realized they were empty, the man jumped the counter and escaped in a small, dark-colored pick-up truck, according to police reports.

Alconbury Road, 1500 block, Sept. 24. Two PlayStation 3 consoles and an Xbox, along with a laptop computer, were taken from a home after someone cut the rear screen kitchen windows to enter the house. Total loss was $1,800

Moline Circle, unit block, Sept. 21-23. A 27-inch TV was stolen from a home after an unknown suspect entered by breaking a window. Total loss was $300.

Nakota Court, unit block, Sept. 21-22. A laptop computer, an IPod and $520 were stolen from the home after someone entered the house through an unlocked window.

Glenshannon Court, unit block, Sept. 21. A flatscreen TV, and Xbox, laptop computer, suitcase and a bag were stolen from an apartment after someone opened a window and was able to unlock the front door. Witnesses told police that they saw two males, ages 16-20, leave the apartment with the suitcase and bag around 11 a.m.

Right Elevator Drive, unit block, Sept. 19. Five fishing poles, four fiberglass stepladders and a vacuum were stolen from the front porch of the home. Total loss was $440.
