Essex Crime: Boy Robbed by Group of Teens

A 12-year-old boy was attacked and robbed by a group of four teenagers as he walked home from school Friday in Essex, authorities said.

According to police reports, the boy was standing at the 900 block of S. Marlyn Ave. waiting for his brother and friend when the suspects, who the victim said were between 13-17 years old, approached him and asked for his money.

When he refused, the suspects held the boy’s arms behind his back, punched him in the stomach and stole $80 from him before escaping in an unknown direction, according to reports.

Glider Drive, 100 block, between 4:30 p.m. March 2 and 12 p.m. March 4: Four feet of copper piping was reported stolen and another four-foot section of piping was damaged at a vacant home undergoing renovations. Total loss: $60.

Country Ridge Lane, 1500 block, 6:17 p.m. March 3: Five juveniles, ages 12-15, were arrested for breaking into the Country Ridge Flea Market. Several of the suspects were caught inside when officers arrived on the scene, according to police reports.

Matzon Road, 9800 block, between 5 and 9 p.m. March 2: A laptop computer was reported stolen from the home after someone entered through the kitchen window. Total loss: $700.

Community Place, 100 block, between Nov. 20 and Feb. 13: An air conditioning condenser, an interior furnace and copper piping were reported stolen from a vacant home. Total loss: $2,300.
