Crime Beat: Two Armed Robberies, Man Crashes into Gas Station

Man Crashes Car into Gas Station

March 27: A 50-year-old man was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and robbery on Sunday after crashing his truck into another vehicle and then attempting to steal another truck while trying to elude police.

According to police, David S. Byrd drove his truck into a car parked at a on the 700 block of Eastern Avenue. After narrowly missing hitting the man pumping gas into his car, Byrd implied he had a gun and ran away.

Byrd then attempted to take another truck from a man who stopped on Eastern Boulevard after witnessing the initial accident. Police then tried to arrest Byrd, who punched an officer in the face before finally being subdued by police and a Baltimore County paramedic.

Byrd told police he wanted to die and that he tried to blow himself up by intentionally driving into the car parked at the gas station.

Tiller Taken

March 27: An unknown suspect broke into a shed and stole a tiller from a home on the 6100 block of Ebenezer Road. Total loss: $460.

Man Robbed at Gunpoint

March 25: A 21-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint while standing at a bus stop at the intersection of Hartland and Middleborough roads. According to police, the suspect approached the victim at about 9:30 p.m. and produced a silver semi-automatic handgun and took the victim’s cell phone and wallet. The suspect is described as a black male, between the ages of 18 and 25, about 5-foot-10 and wearing a black knit hat.

Copper Piping Snatched

March 24: An unknown suspect cut and removed 20 feet of copper piping from inside a home under construction on the 5700 block of Country Farm Road.

Vacant Home Burglarized

March 23: An unknown suspect entered through an open basement window of a home on the 10200 block of Bird River Road and stole copper piping, copper wiring and aluminum siding. The home was vacant due to a recent fire at the residence.

Burglars Arrested Outside Essex Bar

March 22: Two men were arrested and charged with second-degree burglary after allegedly breaking into , located on the 500 block of Eastern Avenue. Police allege the pair, Michael Timmons, 21, and Andrew Umphlett, 18, broke the back window to the bar. The subjects ran off when the alarm sounded. The suspects were located by police.

Scrap Yard Burglarized

March 21: Two unknown male suspects removed two large trash cans filled with an unknown amount of copper from the fenced-in yard of EZ Pickins, located on the 200 block of Earls Road. The pair then placed the cans in the rear of a pick-up truck before escaping. Total loss: $220

Man Robbed at Gunpoint II

March 21: A 25-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint at the intersection of Hartland and Middleborough roads. According to police reports, at about 6:45 a.m., a man approached the victim and displayed a silver semi-automatic handgun and demanded property. The suspect ran off with the victim’s wallet, money, bankcards, license and cell phone. The suspect is described as a black male, between 18-20 years old, weighing 140 pounds and wearing a black knit hat, a black jacket and blue jeans.

Man Stabbed on Navigator Court

March 20: A 26-year-old man was stabbed in front of his house on Navigator Court. According to police, the man was cleaning up his children’s toys in his front yard when a white male, standing about 5-foot-10 with a medium build, long black hair and tattoos struck him in the head from behind. The victim grabbed the suspect and tried to wrestle him to the ground when an unknown second supect stabbed the victim. Family members drove the victim to , where he was treated for a punctured lung.
