Crime Beat: Man Fights Off Armed Robbers, Pizza Deliveryman Assaulted

Here's a sampling of local crime reported to the Baltimore County Police Department's Essex Precinct.

Pizza Deliveryman Assaulted

May 20: Police are searching for two males in their early 20s that allegedly attempted to rob a pizza deliveryman in front of an apartment building on the 1100 block of Tace Drive.

The 40-year-old deliveryman told police that after he made a delivery at about 9:45 p.m., the two suspects approached him and began to assault him. The victim then broke free and ran back inside to seek assistance. The suspects were last seen running behind the apartment building toward Middleborough Road. No property was taken.

Transmission Business Burglarized

May 20: An unknown person broke into Williams Transmissions, located on the 2800 block of Eastern Avenue, and stole used core transmissions from fenced-in lots. Total loss: $500.

Copper Stolen, Home Flooded

May 19: Between April 26 and May 13, someone entered through the rear basement window of a vacant home on the 6900 block of Birdwood Road and stole the copper piping and wire.

The theft of the piping caused the basement to flood, leaving a foot of standing water in the residence and causing $6,000 in damage. Total property loss: $1,000

Lawn Lanterns Taken

May 19: An unknown suspect stole two lawn lanterns from a home on the 900 block of N. Woodward Drive. Total loss: $125.

O’s Tickets Snatched

May 18: Someone broke into Building Specialties, located on the 9700 block of Pulaski Highway, and stole 32 Orioles baseball tickets. Total loss: $1,000.

Electronics Stolen

May 18: An unknown suspect entered a home, possibly via the rear kitchen door, on the 600 block of West Kingway Road, and stole a 46-inch LCD TV and a Playstation 3 console. Total loss: $1,100.

Air Compressor Taken

May 17: An unknown person entered an unsecured shed of a home on the 2200 block of Wicomico Road and stole a red air compressor. Total loss: $300.

Man Fights Off Would-Be Robbers

May 17: At about 3 a.m. two unknown male suspects followed a victim home from Benchwarmers Pub and approached the 29-year-old man on his porch of his home on the 2200 block of Redthorn Road.

One of the suspects displayed a handgun and demanded money. The victim then punched the suspect in the face and both suspects then ran away. The victim told police he may have been targeted by the suspects because they saw him with money while at the bar.

Copper Taken From Construction Site

May 16: Between May 13-16, someone entered a home under construction on the 6800 block of S. River Drive and stole copper wiring, power tools and extension cords. Total loss: $880.

Copper Crooks Captured

May 16: Two men were arrested and charged with first-degree burglary for stealing copper piping from a vacant home on the 10100 block of Bird River Road.

Justin Bartock, 22, and Jay Pugh, 21, were arrested at the home after police caught them allegedly removing copper from the residence. According to police reports, Bartock also admitted to police to committing a similar burglary at the home on May 14.

Martin Boulevard Elementary Vandalized

May 16: An unknown suspect spray painted racial and sexual phrases on the rear wall of Martin Boulevard Elementary School, located at 210 Riverton Road.

According to police reports, the night janitor noticed the graffiti on the wall and contacted school security before covering up the offensive material, which no student saw.

More Copper Snatched

May 16: Between May 9-16, an unknown suspect cut a hole in the wall of a vacant home on the 3500 block of Red Rose Farm Road and removed the copper piping. Total loss: $500
