Crime Beat: Couple Robbed at Gunpoint, Attempted Carjacking at Walmart

Man Robbed in Hotel Room
May 12: A 28-year-old man was arrested for robbing a 26-year-old man of $200 inside his room of the Colonial Hotel on the 9600 block of Pulaski Highway.
According to police reports, Navorro Young allegedly tried to sell the victim cigarettes. As the victim went to pull out the money from his pocket, Young allegedly grabbed the $200 a fled. The victim then gave chase and was eventually punched in the face by the suspect. The victim retreated to his room before the suspect kicked the door in only to be chased off by the suspect as he wielded a table leg.

Laptop, Clothes Taken
May 11: An unknown suspect forced open a door of an apartment on the unit block of Cedar Drive and stole a laptop computer and various items of clothing. Total loss: $1,250.

Copper Pipe Stolen From Church
May 10: An unknown suspect cut the copper pipes from the air conditioning unit outside the Peninsula House of Prayer Baptist Church on the 200 block of Carroll Island Road. A witness chased the suspect before he dropped the piping and escaped.
Cash, Video Games Snatched
May 10: An unknown suspect entered an apartment on the 1400 block of Strawflower Road and stole $1,100 from a safe and a PS3 game console. Total loss: $1,400
Couple Robbed at Gunpoint
May 10: Three unknown suspects are wanted in connection to an armed robbery of a couple, which included a pregnant woman, along the Route 702 footbridge.
According to police reports, the male victim met the female victim at about 10:45 p.m. a bus stop near the footbridge when he suspects approached them. The suspects then allegedly held the couple at gunpoint and told the victim to get on the ground. The suspects then pistol-whipped the male victim before escaping with a wallet, debit cards, a cell phone, purse and keys. Total loss: $213.
Attempted Carjacking at Walmart
May 7: Police arrested a 48-year-old man and charged him with attempted carjacking and second-degree assault following an attempted theft at the Walmart at 112 Carroll Island Road.
According to police reports, Darryl Smith, of the 3700 block of Overview Road, removed the spider wrap from a laptop computer. Store security caught him and placed him in their office.
Smith them escaped and pushed a 7-year-old girl in the process before running out into the store’s parking lot. Smith then allegedly approached a 28-year-old woman and tried to gain control of her vehicle before he ran away and was eventually caught by police.
Tools Stolen From Car
May 7: An unknown suspect shattered the passenger side window of a vehicle on the unit block of Lindsey Court before stealing a set of work tools.
Man Assaulted, Robbed
May 7: A 27-year-old man reported being assaulted outside his apartment and robbed of his cell phone by two unknown suspects. The incident occurred about 10:35 on the 9800 block of Tailspin Lane as the suspects struck the victim from behind and stole his phone
