Crime Beat: Copper Thefts, Burglaries and More

The following information was supplied by the Baltimore County Police Department. In cases where a criminal charge is noted, the information provided does not indicate a conviction.

Here is a sampling of the latest crimes reported to the Essex Precinct.

Aldeney Ave., 1500 block, Aug. 15: A laptop computer and cell phone were taken after two unknown male suspects entered the home by opening a rear window to unlock the door. According to police reports, a neighbor saw the suspects on the rear porch but did not call 911.

Maryland Avenue, 600 block, Aug. 14-15: A saw was stolen and shed ransacked after a suspect removed the padlock from the door.

Mohrs Lane, 1300 block, Aug. 13-14: An unknown suspect stole two keys and $200 after kicking in the front door.

Eyring Avenue, 100 block, Aug. 13: Two men were arrested and charged with second-degree burglary for allegedly cutting copper tubing from air conditioning units belonging to General Heating and Cooling.

Clarence J. Appleman, 22, of the 300 block of S. Taylor Ave. and Christopher Panuska, 23, of the 1000 block of Ensor Drive were arrested around 1:30 a.m. Saturday after allegedly entering the business by cutting a hole in the fence surrounding the scrap yard behind the business.

According to police reports, Panuska surrendered to police following a foot chase, while Appleman was caught by K-9 units in a driveway of a home on the 1300 block of Dorsey Ave.

Cutlass Court, unit block, Aug. 13-14: A video game console, video games, DVD player, BB gun, two-carat diamond ring and a gold watch were stolen after someone broke a rear window and unlocked a door to gain entry into the house. Total loss: $3,080.

Davison Road, 9800 block, Aug. 13:  A laptop computer was taken from a home after an unknown suspect pushed open an unsecured front door.

Winter Park Circle, 1400 block, Aug. 11: A suspect known to those living in the apartment allegedly ransacked the home, damaging a laptop computer, wooden TV cart, microwave and stereo while also spilling food from the refrigerator all over the floor. Total loss: $910.

Bayner Road, 1000 block, Aug. 10: A bicycle was taken from the backyard of a home. Total loss: $150.

Sharondale Way, unit block, Aug. 10:  Someone stole $15 in change after vandalizing a coin-operated washing machine.

Southorn Road, 2200 block, Aug. 9:  A motor scooter was taken from the yard of the home.

Old Eastern Avenue, 1200 block, Aug. 9-10: A dirt bike was taken from Eastern Auto & Air after an unknown suspect cut chains to enter a fenced-in yard. Total loss: $1,200.

Punjab Circle, 1100 block, Aug 8-9: A TV, laptop computer, Xbox, 100 video games, PlayStation 3, earrings and a child bracelet were stolen after someone entered the home by breaking a rear kitchen window.

Pulaski Highway, 10000 block, Aug. 8: An unknown amount of money was taken from a vending machine located inside Bunting Door and Hardware. The suspect ran away when police arrived.

Ann Avenue, 100 block, Aug. 5-8: Two trucks and two trailers filled with lawn mowers, assorted blowers and trimmers were taken from The Brickman Group LTD. The trucks were later recovered in Baltimore City, but the equipment was not found.
