County Firefighers Raise Money for MDA

Annual collection drive for Muscular Dystrophy Association takes place Friday-Labor Day.

The Baltimore County Fire Department is seeking the public’s assistance as it prepares for its annual Labor Day weekend push to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Firefighters will be stationed at 15 intersections throughout the county Friday through Monday asking motorists to assist the effort by making a donation. The fire department is hoping to improve on last year’s effort when it collected $105,000.

Firefighter Michael Stewart, who is based at the Essex station, has been involved in organizing the collection drive for nearly 25 years. He said the drive is important to him because most of the money collected will stay in Maryland.

“I have two healthy sons and now have a really healthy granddaughter, which I’m so thankful for,” Stewart said. “Not everyone is as lucky. I know many people who have children with muscular dystrophy, and so if there is any way I can help them, I want to do it.”

Here are the intersections where firefighters will be stationed this weekend:
