Club Baltimore Owners Promise to Reduce Violence Following Fatal Shooting

Rosedale establishment has had eight noise complaints and three fights documented over the last 18 months.

Owners of a Rosedale Club where a man was have pledged to work with Baltimore County police to prevent future violent episodes.

Club Baltimore manager G. Singh told Patch in a phone interview on Friday that the establishment, located in the 8000 block of Pulaski Highway, that the club has taken several steps to reduce outside noise and minimize the chance of fights.

Among those steps are better insulation to dampen noise and fewer speakers.  Singh said there are plans to change the tone of the business to more of a lounge instead of a nightclub where loud music, large crowds and alcohol can escalate into violence.

While the owner of Club Baltimore, Harjeet Singh Multani, is working with police to reduce the number of disturbances and noise complaints, Chief James Johnson said that he is prepared to act against the club if conditions there do not improve.

"We hope that the owner of Club Baltimore will cooperate with (Police) Precinct 9's efforts to improve conditions there," said Johnson in a statement. "But we are looking at taking action against the club if that does not happen. I'm extremely concerned about last weekend's homicide as well as the actions of the patrons on the club parking lot that night.”

Baltimore County Police spokesman Elise Armacost said the calls to Club Baltimore date to May 2010, including:

  • May 9, 2010 – Noise complaint
  • June 6, 2010 – Noise complaint
  • July 11, 2010 – Noise complaint
  • July 31, 2010 – Noise complaint
  • Sept. 1, 2010 – Noise complaint
  • Sept. 25, 2010 – Domestic assault
  • Oct. 23, 2010 - Fight
  • Dec. 4, 2010 – Noise complaint
  • Dec. 25, 2010 – Noise complaint
  • May 30, 2010 – Assault

“This particular establishment has had a steady stream of calls which has led Chief Johnson to be concerned about activity there,” Armacost said. “It has shown signs of being a troubled spot, but we are glad to see how cooperative the owners have been in working with police.”

Singh responded that noise noise complaints are many months old and they club will continue to work with police in the future.

Club Baltimore owners are scheduled to appear before the county liquor board in August regarding noise complaints.

“We have decided not to book parties in the future and make the environment more of a low-key social setting,” Singh said. “It will just take time to get all of the changes in place.”
