Bus Crash Snarls Essex Morning Commute

A section of Route 702 was blocked for several hours Thursday after a tour bus got into a single-vehicle accident on the traffic circle in Essex.

The driver of a tour bus was transported to Medstar Franklin Square Medical Center after his vehicle was involved in an accident early Thursday morning on Route 702 in Essex.

A Baltimore County Fire Department spokeswoman said the bus, which was heading from North Carolina to New York, ended up "wedged" on top of the traffic circle after the driver lost control of the vehicle around 5 a.m.

None of the passengers were injured, but traffic along southbound Route 702 at Hyde Park Drive was blocked by the bus. Motorists were forced to take Back River Neck Road until the accident was cleared around 8 a.m., fire department officials said.
