Police say a burglar took nothing from an Essex home last week, but left something unusual behind.
The incident happened sometime between noon on Sept. 7 and 8 a.m. on Sept. 10 in the unit block of Masthead Court, according to a police report.
Police said the burglar broke a rear window in order to unlock and open a door. The burglar dropped a beer bottle near the window and stored food and drinks (including a can of beer) in the refrigerator. The burglar then broke a screen in a second-floor bedroom window and left through a rear door.
A technician who arrived for an inspection prior to new residents moving in discovered the damage.
Nothing was taken, but the window damage totaled $130, according to police.
Investigators found dried blood and latent fingerprints at the site and on the beer can and bottle, according to the report.
