Lightning bugs and snowballs, yes it's summertime!

Simple introduction and plugs with me!

I got out of the car tonight and couldn't help but to just "feel" summer. Summer always gives me a good feeling and tonight it meant getting one of my favorites, an EggCustard snowball with marshmallow in the middle! Yummy!

As this is my first little blog here on Patch, I first want to say thank you to not only the editor Ron for reaching out and asking me to blog, but also to Greg for doing the in general, so that I was found out about!

My name is Jessika and I live on the outskirts of Baltimore, MD. I work part time at the North Point Plaza Bingo during the week, go to school full time during the regular semester at Towson University( will be starting my first semester there this Fall, I have been previously attending Anne Arundel Community College) and also train to be a professional wrestler in Severn, MD at Gillberg's Professional Wrestling Academy.

If anything I'm amazed at everything that has led up to this point in my life. Although I'm only 19, (turning 20 this month) it's been a long road to get where I am and every day is a struggle to move forward.

To give you some background on me, I started watching wrestling when was in the fifth grade. I remember my first t-shirt being Stone Cold Steve Austin's "WHAT"?" T-shirt. I remember walking into my elementary school cafeteria and kids chanting, "What?" at me when I wore it for the first time. I fell in love with this business and my father took me to my first show where Triple H and Jericho headlined at the Baltimore arena. He figured that this was just going to be a "phase" of mine and that I would go to one show and wouldn't want to go again. I think if anything, going to the show fueled me for more.

In the ninth grade, my High School offered a "freshman seminar" class where we discovered possible career choices and options. I wanted to in some capacity to be involved in wrestling so I looked on the WWE Corporate page and checked out what a "Creative Writer," would need. In some respect it was the Mass Communications major so I focused my goals on that.

It was March of 2008, the end of my junior year when my mindset started to change. I had limited myself of the idea of writing for wrestling and being that creative writer because I didn't have the physical ability or athleticism. I was 223lbs and I was the farthest thing from being a woman's professional wrestler than you could imagine.

I joined my local gym in March of 2008 with a friend, and when I couldn't last for more than 5 minutes on the elliptical I asked myself a question. "Can you be a professional wrestler?" That question pulled me through so many workouts and times when I thought I couldn't go anymore. It still does to this day.

With help from a local indy wrestler, who is now signed to a developmental deal to the WWE, I was able to lose a majority of my weight and gain a lot of muscle. Slowly I was able to adopt a new lifestyle, which was a huge change for me and lose more than 60 pounds.

Within months of the time that I lost my weight, I was in the ring. My same trainer got me in the ring for my first few times and I was taking my first bumps in December of 2009.

After he could no longer train me I took a few months off. This was until conveniently Gillberg's Pro Wrestling Academy opened up in Severn in July of 2010 and now it's my second home. I spend at least 3 days of the week there. I was the first student that signed up and walked through those doors so I feel a pressure that I always have to be an example and work to my fullest.

Easily I can tell you wrestling is one of the hardest businesses to be successful in. I have learned all of this from my fabulous trainers. You don't get in the wrestling business aiming to make money because in most cases, you're not going to be rich and you're not going to be famous.

Even if you DO make it, most contracts with the WWE last about 3 years. Think about the cycles you see on television, there are of course RARITIES, such as The Undertaker and Triple H that are there for extended amounts of time, but 3 years is about the key there. In those 3 years you are on the road a lot, away from your family a lot, beating and breaking up your body...a lot. Of course there are other options to be a successful wrestler such as TNA and Japan. My personal goal, WWE Television.

Yes, I'm the crazy one that wants to get into this business. There's not a day that I don't hurt, but that comes with the territory. In no way am I sitting here complaining, I just want people to be made aware of the physicality of wrestling. It's no walk in the park. Before Gillberg's, there were other wrestling schools that my trainers participated in. They told me they had people that had been in the army, fell in the ring a few times and had left because it was too much to handle. I remember taking my first bumps, and not being able to get up out of bed the next day or being able to move my neck because your neck muscles are so sore/weak.

As of now, I'm a valet of the MCW Rage Television Champion Ronnie Zukko. MCW stands for Maryland Championship Wrestling and there are regular shows at the New Green Room in Dundalk, MD. We also have free sessions, where we tape MCW Rage TV at Gillberg's every month.

I've had one unofficial match at a free show in January at the school and have been training since last July. That shows you that wrestling isn't easy. There's very much you have to learn before you get an opportunity. Not only must you learn, but you have to prove you are worthy of your opportunities!

My first "real" match, I'm actually going to be traveling to West Virginia for. It's going to be on my birthday, June 25th, at the end of this month so I'm pretty excited for it. I'm nervous beyond belief about it too, but we'll pass that bridge as we get there. I try not get excited about anything because I've found that in wrestling, and in life in general, you can't control what happens so it's best not to get too excited in attempt to avoid disappointments.

The MCW Rage TV tapings are this Friday night at Gillberg's! Totally free and it's a "practice" session because really, a lot of our students get the opportunity to perform in front of a crowd against the legitimate MCW stars, so it's a win/win for all! I highly recommend everyone checking out the MCW website: Marylandwrestling.com  and the Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MarylandChampionshipWrestling

Also, for anyone is a women's wrestling fan in general, Diva-Dirt.com is simply awesome. I met one of their writers at a Chris Jericho book signing earlier in the year and we've started up a whole documentary on it. So check that out too here: http://Diva-Dirt.com/JessieKaye

Well that's it for now I guess, just a simple introduction about me and a few shameless plugs! Talk soon bloggers! :)
