'House of Cards' Netflix Show Eyes County Council Library

By Bryan P. Sears

The library used by members of the Baltimore County Council could appear in a future episode of the Netflix dramatic series House of Cards.

Thomas Peddicord, legal adviser to the council, confirmed the room on the second floor of the Historic Courthouse in Towson was part of a location search by the show's producers.

The Quinton Report blog first reported Wednesday afternoon that the courthouse location was on the list of possible sets.

The producers also looked at the council legislative chambers, an exterior hallway but were apparently most interested in the library.

Shooting was to begin in Towson next week but Peddicord said that the schedule has been delayed to a future date.

Ellen Kobler, a county spokeswoman, said the show also looked at other areas of the building outside of the council suites.

"We're waiting to hear back on whether they are going to use our beautiful, historic building," Kobler said.

The Netflix original drama features Kevin Spacey as Rep. Frank Underwood, a South Carolina congressman, who looks to exact political revenge after being passed over for an appointment to Secretary of State.

The show shot several scenes earlier this month in the State House in Annapolis.
