Open Cockpit Day Season Finale

The last Open Cockpit Day of the 2013 season will be held this Saturday when  visitors can climb into the pilot's seat of a fighter jet and board the 1952 passenger airliner.  Say farewell to summer and hello school year with a visit to this gem of Baltimore County history. If your kids have seen the new Disney movie starring airplanes and they want to see the real thing, a visit to the Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum at Martin State Airport will provide you and your children an up close experience with airplanes.  The Museum's "cast" of airplanes on the Museum's outdoor  flightline include Marty Mainliner, Slufffy, Thunderchief, Thunderflash, the Phantom and others. Museum Docents will share with visitors the stories of these aircraft, three of the airplanes having been built in Middle River by the Glenn L. Martin Company. The indoor exhibits include models of airplanes from 1910 through the space rockets. The last tour group to the open aircraft flightline departs from the Museum's exhibit gallery at 1:30pm.

Participating with displays and stories are the Ninety-Nines (an organization of women pilots), the Senior Science Society and the Baltimore Chapter of the American Rosie the Riveter Association.

Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children. Parking is free. www.mdairmuseum.org 410-682-6122
