Traffic Delays Expected During 9/11 Motorcycle Ride

The event is expected to attract up to 3,000 motorcycle riders, according to Maryland State Police.

Expect traffic delays along Route 40 and several interstate roads on Sunday, beginning at 1 p.m. and continuing for about three hours, as thousands of motorcyclists are expected to participate in a 9/11 memorial ride in observance of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The memorial ride will begin at 1 p.m., Sunday at two locations – at the Harley-Davidson Store in Middle River to the north and the 7500 block of Old Telegraph Road in Hanover to the south, according to a news release from Maryland State Police.

The northern ride will travel the inner loop of I-695 before ending at McAvoy's bar and restaurant

The southern ride will proceed to I-97 and then north to the outer loop of I-695 and return to I-97 in Anne Arundel County, the release continues.

According to the release, Maryland State Police will not be escorting the ride but will be monitoring traffic in cooperation with the State Highway Administration.

Extra troopers will be stationed along the routes in areas were traffic delays are expected. The ride should last about three hours.
