Schools Closing Three Hours Early Due to Heat

Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s with a heat index of up to 105 on Tuesday.

Due to extreme heat, Baltimore County Public Schools will be closing three hours early on Tuesday.

With the closings, there will be no afternoon pre-kindergarten classes and all afternoon school activities are canceled. However, graduation exercises scheduled for today will proceed as scheduled for Franklin High, Carver Center and Randallstown High.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s on Tuesday with the heat index expected to make it feel like 100 to 105 degrees. A heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m.

The Maryland Department of the Environment has also issued a code orange air quality alert. This means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. These groups include children and the elderly, along with people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases.
