Flash Flood Watch Remains in Effect for Much of MD

Several inches of rain likely to fall in the area, according to the National Weather Service.

(UPDATED 1:38 p.m.) Much of Maryland, incuding Baltimore County remain under a flash flood watch through late Thursday night. according to the National Weather Service.

A flash flood warning means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. This comes after much of Essex and Middle River was under a flash flood warning for much of Thursday.

Torrential rain is moving across the area with several inches of downfall expected in southeastern Baltimore County. Also, the weather service forecasts heavy rain throughout Thursday with a 50 percent chance of additional thunderstorms Friday and a 30 percent chance for more of the same on Saturday, according to a bulletin from the National Weather Service.

Baltimore County updated its list of road closures due to flooding at 12:25 p.m. Thursday. In the Essex-Middle River area, this includes:

  • Barrison Point Road and Back River Neck Road
  • Eastern Avenue and Earls Road
  • Old Orems and Golden Ring Roads
  • Route 40 at the Gunpowder
  • Route 40 and Allender Road

Baltimore County public safety officials advise motorists to use caution and never to drive through standing water. Most flood-related fatalities involved motorists trapped in vehicles that were swept away by water, according to a press release.
