BGE Bracing for Power Outages

More thunderstorms could hit the region Wednesday after the last storm led to more than 13,000 power outages among BGE customers.

BGE is bracing for more power outages with another round of potentially heavy thunderstorms set to potentially hit the region.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a 70 percent chance of rain on Wednesday with downfalls of up to a half and inch projected.

According to a news release, BGE has already restored power to more than 13,000 customers, including 1,971 in Baltimore County, following a thunderstorm early Wednesday morning.

BGE officials said that the new storms have the potential for lightning and wind gusts approaching 50 mph, which could damage overhead and underground electric distribution equipment and cause interruptions in electric service. 

BGE is also asking customers to call 410-685-0123 to report downed power lines and 877-778-2222 to report power outages.

Here is the forecast, according to the National Weather Service:

Wednesday: There is a 70 percent chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm with a high of 84. Rainfall totals could range between a quarter- and half-inch.

Tonight: A 60 percent chance of precipitation with a low of 71.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 86.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 70.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 88.
