Stove Fire Kills Essex Man

Ronald Vogel was discovered dead inside his Old Eastern Avenue home on Sunday.

A 75-year-old Essex man has died of injuries sustained in a stove fire in his home.

Ronald Joseph Vogel, of the 1400 block of Old Eastern Avenue, was discovered dead in his home Sunday, according to a statement from Baltimore County public safety officials.

Baltimore County police officers went to check on the man after relatives and neighbors reported that they had not been able to contact Vogel, according to the statement.

When police arrived at the home, they noticed intense heat and smelled the odor of natural gas, according to the statement.

Officers found Vogel on the floor near the kitchen. Emergency medical workers from the Baltimore County fire department responded and confirmed Vogel's death.

Fire investigators said the fire was contained to the stove and that combustible materials stored inside the stove had ignited.

The fire was accidental, according to investigators.
