Bevins Focuses on Road Paving

Councilwoman Cathy Bevins provides update on 6th District Road Paving Projects

One of the most frequent complaints I hear is about the condition of roads in various east side neighborhoods.  I am constantly forwarding requests for road repairs to the Baltimore County Department of Public Works and the Bureau of Highways – whether it is for a pothole repair, a new paint stripe, or a major resurfacing project.

In addition to the basic patchwork and road repairs, my office has been active in identifying and advocating for major resurfacing projects.  In fact, in 2012, Parkville and Middle River benefited from a combined $3 million in resurfacing projects, with perhaps the biggest impact in Hawthorne, where the entire community was repaved.  Individual paving work was also completed in several other neighborhoods last year, and as the weather warms up in the coming months, another $1.5 million in road paving projects will begin in the Linover, Hazelwood-Park East, and Harewood Park communities.

Obviously, in these tough economic times and with aging infrastructure, there is a shortage of resources available to fund all of the necessary major projects, but it is important that highways and community roads are kept up, safe and smooth.  As DPW analyzes and rates the condition of Baltimore County roadways to determine eligibility for resurfacing projects, I will continue working with the County Executive and DPW officials to ensure that the communities in the 6th District get their fair share of improvements.

As always, if you have an issue that I can help with, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
