Bevins: Now is the Perfect Time for Spring Cleaning

This past winter was certainly milder than years past, but with the season (hopefully) behind us, it is time to look forward to the warm-weather months ahead.  

Spring is all about new beginnings, and I am happy to welcome the new residents, and the many new businesses that have opened their doors in the Sixth District. With the warmer weather and increased daylight, this is the time of year when communities can come together to do a little "spring-cleaning." 

The local government can certainly do its part and help out with the many public services available, but sometimes I think it is important to remind folks that neighborhood pride, volunteer work, and some basic common sense goes a long way. 

This time of year, many of the local community associations coordinate community clean-ups, dumpster days, or other initatives to help to beautify the various community amenities and residential neighborhoods.  

Likewise, local business associations and chambers of commerce  work together to revive the business districts or add character to our commercial centers. There are county programs to assist with aesthetic improvements, but the most successful communities are always those where the residents are dedicated to keeping the community looking good. 

Obviously, don't litter.  If you see litter or someone else's trash on the ground, take the time to pick it up and throw it away. Prevent the problem before it starts. If debris is piling up by the storm drain or ditch across the street, don't just stare at it, but grab a rake and a wastebasket and make a difference.  

Obviously, if the mess requires heavy equipment, or the clogging is excessive, do not put yourself in harms way—but feel free to contact my office and we will get a county crew to the area ASAP.  By working together these next couple of months,  I am confident that the Sixth District will be in great shape to showcase all it has to offer this summer.
