Visions For Vacancies: Former Blockbuster

The one-time location of the national video rental chain has been vacant for years.

Editor's Note: In a weekly feature, Patch examines vacant buildings in the Essex-Middle River area while seeking feedback from readers on what they would like to see open in the community.

The 5,678-square-foot vacant building in the Victory Villa Shopping Center is a constant reminder of how times have changed in recent years.

The anchor spot of the center once belonged to Blockbuster Video and was filled with people looking for the latest VHS tapes, DVDs and video games. But, thanks to on-demand, Red Box and streaming on the Internet, video rental stores are closing up across the country.

The vacant Blockbuster, located at 117 Beacon Road in Middle River, has been empty for a couple of years. The space is available for the right business to lease.
