Gas Prices Spike for Third Straight Week

The average cost for regular unleaded is back up to $3.70 a gallon, according to a AAA survey.

Gas prices continue to spike as the average cost for a gallon of regular unleaded nationally increased to $3.70 nationally this week, according to the latest AAA survey.

This increase comes after prices dipped to $3.54 a gallon on June 30, according to AAA. The current price represents a 2 cent increase from a week ago and a 98 cent jump from a year ago.

In Maryland, the average cost for regular unleaded was $3.70 this week, up a penny from a week ago and $1.05 from a year ago, according to AAA.

“Motorists filling up their tanks this week were faced with a double whammy—excessive heat and rising gas prices,” said Ragina C. Averella, AAA Mid-Atlantic spokesman, in a statement. “As temperatures reached triple digits in many areas, gas prices rose for the third straight week, a one-two punch as the summer driving season moves into its second half.

"Analysts continue to believe gas prices will remain below $4 per gallon in the near-term, barring any unforeseen natural or economic event, ranging from $3.50 to $3.75 over the next month.”

Here are the cheapest gas prices in the Essex-Middle River area, according to MarylandGasPrices.com:
