County Officials Look To Cook Up Food Truck Regulations

The Baltimore County Planning Board will look at limiting where the popular mobile food venues can operate.

The proliferation of food trucks in the area has county officials considering a tightening of the laws pertaining to where they are allowed to operate.

The Baltimore County Planning Board is scheduled to hold a public hearing on possible changes to county laws related to the mobile food stands.

Currently, the trucks are allowed to operate within 100 feet of an existing restaurant.  The Planning Board could discuss tripling that boundary.

There is no bill before the County Council.

County Councilman David Marks, a Republican who represents a district that stretches from Kingsville and Perry Hall to Parkville and Towson,  said many of the trucks operate in the downtown Towson area near existing restaurants.

Still, the councilman said he’s not sure how big an issue the trucks pose.

“No one has complained to me about it yet,” Marks said. “I have no plans for a bill, yet."
