Stavropoulos, Former Senate and House Candidate, Dies

The Democrat who ran for state office in 2006 and 2010 died Monday after a heart attack.

Jim Stavropoulos, a Democrat who twice ran for seats in the Maryland General Assembly, died Monday after a heart attack. He was 55.

Stavropoulos' death was announced Monday on his Facebook page by Kathy Vogel, his fiance.

Vogel was not immediately available for comment.

Stavropoulos suffered a massive heart attack Sunday night, according to his Facebook page.

The Democrat twice ran for seats in the Maryland General Assembly.

In 2006, Stavropoulos ran unsuccessfully for the House of Delegates in the 7th District. Four years later, he ran for the state Senate in the same district. He was also known to comment on Patch using the screen name "Jimiknowsbest."

Funeral details were not immediately available.
