Essex's Seniors Got Talent

Local seniors show off their artistic sides in a talent competition.

Piers Morgan wasn’t among those in the audience on Wednesday at the Essex Senior Center.

Had the television star been there, he may have found a contestant or two to compete on his NBC hit show, “America’s Got Talent.”

Six seniors, mainly from eastern Baltimore County, competed in “Seniors Got Talent.” Contestants sang, played instruments and showcased other talents to impress judges seeking the most talented senior in Baltimore County.

Three performers from the Essex Senior Center were chosen to move on to a final county-wide competition in October: Rosedale singer Mel Gray, Middle River guitarist Tom Tomlinson and Pikesville singer/trumpet player Paul Naden.

The talent competition at the Essex center  is one of three being held this summer throughout Baltimore County. The second will be at the Catonsville Senior Center 1 p.m., July 20, and the third will be at the Parkville Senior center 1 p.m.,  Aug. 30.

At each competition,  judges select the top three performers to move on to the county-wide finals slated for 2 p.m., Oct. 6 at the Baltimore County Department of Aging’s Baby Boomer & Senior Expo at the Timonium Fairgrounds.

Contestants must be at least 60 years old and residents of Baltimore County. Acts should last five minutes or less.
