Report: 2,000 Homes Planned for Baltimore Crossroads in White Marsh

A Virginia developer agreed to purchase land in White Marsh to build a community of 2,000 homes.

A Virginia-based developer has agreed to purchase approximately 1,000 acres from St. John's Properties at the Baltimore Crossroads in White Marsh, with plans to build 2,000 homes, according to The Baltimore Business Journal.

Elm Street Development plans to start building homes next summer, and the development will eventually include a main boulevard, a park and a community center, accord to the report.

A representative for St. John Properties said the development will be constructed in "waves," according to the report.

County Councilman David Marks, who represents the neighboring council district, has been a proponent of limited development and wants a new high school in northeast Baltimore County. He said the county must address this growth before school overcrowding worsens.

"This is exactly the growth I have raised with the school system, and it is an example of how development affects schools across council district lines," Marks told Patch. "The school system has got to plan for a new high school now."

Councilwoman Cathy Bevins, who represents District 6 where the development site is located, did not respond to questions about the development by publication time.

UPDATE Nov. 14 11:15 a.m.: Councilman Marks added this comment about the council's effort to manage development in northeast Baltimore County:

"Councilwoman Bevins and I have had several conversations about the school overcrowding issue. I know it is important to her and she cares very much about the quality of schools in northeastern Baltimore County."
