Meet Zoe Mehall

Essex Elementary fourth-grader is an aspiring author.

Zoe Mehall has already written two books and is working on a third with hopes of publishing one of them soon. Not bad for a 9-year-old.

The fourth-grader at Essex Elementary has many interests, including writing, dancing and playing golf. She also has a knack for design—she was a finalist in a nationwide contest sponsored by the Disney Channel: "Phineas and Ferb Chain Reaction Contest."

The contest required the youngsters to design and build a chain reaction experiment based on one of the episodes of the popular children’s cartoon.

What are the books you’ve written about?: One book is called Valentine Cat about a cat that goes on an adventure on Valentine’s Day. The other is called A New Year’s Day Miracle. It’s about  a 9-year-old boy whose parents couldn’t take care of him and gave him up for adoption. Then the boy travels from North America to Australia to find his parents.

What do you enjoy reading: I love the Harry Potter books. I’ve read all seven books in the series.

What made you decide to enter the “Phineas and Ferb” contest?: It looked like fun and it was something I thought I could do with my dad [Mike Mehall].

How much of the work did you do on the project yourself?: My dad helped me on the construction but I designed it all by myself.

What would you like to be when you grow up?: I’m hoping to be an author one day. If not, I’d love to be a dancer.

Do you know someone who you would like to see nominated as a "Whiz Kid"? Click for infomation.
