In recognition of National HIV Testing Day on Thursday, June 27, get a free HIV test at one of several testing events in Baltimore County, according to the Baltimore County Department of Health. No appointment necessary.

NHTD is an annual campaign that encourages people of all ages to"Take the Test, Take Control," according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

About 1.1 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV, and almost one in five don't know they are infected, the CDC states.

"Getting tested is the first step to finding out if you have HIV. If you have HIV, getting medical care and taking medicines regularly helps you live a longer, healthier life and also lowers the chances of passing HIV on to others," the CDC says.
