UPDATE: Woman Struck, Hospitalized After White Marsh Parking Lot Fight
Police believe the incident may have begun over a fight for a parking spot.
UPDATE (4:08 p.m., Sept. 17)—Police have arrested a suspect. Find an update here, Driver Accused of 'Crushing' Woman Over White Marsh Parking Spot.
---
UPDATE (9:56 p.m., Sept. 14)—A woman was hospitalized Friday night after police say she was struck by a vehicle outside the Avenue at White Marsh.
At about 8:25 p.m. police received a call reporting a fight over a parking spot near Staples at the Honeygo Boulevard shopping center. Within minutes, police received several more calls reporting that an adult female had been struck by a vehicle and that the vehicle had fled the scene, according to Cpl. John Wachter, a Baltimore County police spokesman.
The woman was taken by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Wachter said.
No further information on the suspect vehicle or victim was available as of 9:30 p.m. The investigation into the incident and possible connection between the fight and hit-and-run is ongoing, he said.

If it was anything like my situation, it's cause Franklin Square was incapable of properly dealing with her injuries, for one reason or another.
I was transported to Shock Trauma way back when, WITH life threatening injuries. Oh yeah, and before they sent me off, they proceeded to scare the living shit out of my wife and family, suggesting they come up immediately because my life situation was 'touch and go' despite the fact they couldn't handle me.

Bayview ED is rated to handle low level trauma..Franklin has not gotten the rating yet. If her injuries were extensive then a trip to R Adams Cowely Shock Trauma would have been appropriate. An alternative possibility is that if the ER is filled or there are no ICU or for that matter any beds at all. These are called a lets (i.e. red alert or yellow alert)
DougW
6:50 am on Thursday, December 6, 2012
It is routine that various emergency rooms go on yellow alert, which causes medics to skip that hospital. Typically, it happens because there are no staffed beds in the ER, or there are no available beds on the floor. It happens daily, and current status can be seen at
http://www.miemss.org/chats3/Default.aspx?hdRegion=3 The "franklin scare" is a thing of the past. I worked there for a very short time as a contractor right after they moved in to the tower, and I have been treated and admitted through the ER less than a year ago. They do very well there.

A belief in a god/bringing that concept into this story has about as much to do with someone's impulsive anger issues over a parking spot as politics has to do with religion. Separate them conceptually and the Country will begin to heal. Until that happens, you will see people leading silly mini-crusades (pun intended) that will keep us perpetually preoccupied, when we should be fixing our economic and physical infrastructures. We need to build for tomorrow and stop trying to impose our opinions and wills upon others.

One of two reasons why they went to Bayview. 1) Bayview is a mini trauma center, setup to handle the more severe then a er can handle. 2) Franklin Square might have been on bypass also known as yellow alert, therefore Bayview is the next closest ER. The patient does not get a choice, you go to the closest hospital.

Thanks to the pressures of overcrowding the areas we live in people will continue to compete for their own little space wether it is a parking space or a space in traffic no wonder folks living in highly populated areas exhibit this bad behavior. Maryland is getting just like New York for rudeness. I travel I the rural South, Virginia and North Carolina thanks to the expanse of open living areas people are kinder and very polite, typically you hardly ever hear someone laying on their car horn just because the guy in front of them is late getting away from the traffic light. It was such a contrast when my wife and I returned from Japan, after hoofing it around for two weeks to come home and drive everywhere - it really amazed us how often we pass up the opportunity to walk relatively short distances because we can just drive there. Many Japanese don't even own cars (the taxes and lack of land/parking is a problem, and it's not that large of an island, really). They do however have amazingly efficient public transportation (imagine if the Beltway was actually a mega subway called the Yamanote line - that's Tokyo). The people there WALK places, and by that I mean it's nothing to walk six miles in a day. From house to rail to work, from work to rail to restaurant, etc etc etc. It was invigorating, and frankly amazing! Unfortunately, we haven't designed our cities in the same way, so it's never going to be a reality here, but I do try to walk as much as possible. Why drive to House of Kabob when we can walk there in twenty minutes? It puts parking lots into perspective. How far is the farthest parking spot from the store, compared to the closest? On the Avenue would it only be an extra minute of walking? That's nothing!

I accidentally removed my comment above. Yes, this has everything to do with the left removing God from society. People in general have no morals, no respect for each other, and a pathetic level of selfishness that exceeds that of any child. This is clearly the result of the lack of the teachings found in Church. Anyone who denies it is simply lying to themselves. Especially Sherri. This wasn't a simple hit and run. They hit her on purpose because of the argument. READ.

Steve, you can throw the "God" factor into it if you must, but don't blame that on the left. I see plenty of "god-fearing" folks that take similar attitudes. I attribute it to a sense of entitlement (that has nothing to do with social programs) that seems to pervade current civilization.
Taken to the extreme, rednecks and bigots who exhibit such attitudes are typically NOT liberals.

Rude behavior is not a conservative or liberal thing. I would agree that most religions provide a path or a set of rules for behavior, but even if God and church are fading as institutions in this country it is not due to one ideology over another. One could argue that the increased divorce rate and reduced emphasis on family is a pretty good cause for poor behavior.
Steve frequently expresses his opinion that all of the things he disagrees with and all of the bad in the world is the cause of liberals. There is plenty of blame to go around if you only want to consider political ideology. To borrow a phrase - Ideology doesn't cause it, people cause it.

Steve I agree 100%! Parents are not teaching morals at home and the word God is shunned in schools and most public places. If people realize they have to answer to God when it's all said and done I truly believe people would be kinder to each other. I am disabled and get very upset to see cars in the handicap spots w/o tags. I wish I could park farther away and walk. People just don't know how lucky they really are. Everyone is saying this woman is paying the price...I'm not saying that the hit and run driver did the right thing, but it takes 2 to fight. If I encounter a driver acting like a jerk, I have 2 choices, to be a jerk back or to back off and stay away from the jerk. Getting into a confrontation and keeping yourself in a confrontation are 2 different scenarios. Be kind to one another...it goes a long way.

@ Red, I agree, it's not always possible to just walk away...however, the article reads that there were calls about a confrontation before calls about the assault. I'm saying, if you are going to fight, there are consequences. If you walk away/drive away, it's less likely this would have happened. Let me be clear, the hit and run driver needs to be locked up. That doesn't mean the "victim" doesn't also need to be.

Regarding the left removing G-d from society: caring for others, treating your neighbors as you would want to be treated, etc. are the BASIC tenets of major religions. You know all those social programs the right wants to shut down and the liberal left is demonized for supporting? Yeah? That's what those social programs do. The left didn't remove G-d from society. If anything they support the practice of what religious folks would call G-d's message. The only thing removed was the use of a diety's name and prayer type because not all of us practice the same religion!
And back to the reason any of us are commenting on this, i hope the victim has a speedy recovery and the driver is brought to justice.

i'm not religious. You don't need religion, and the threat of some sort of potential punishment in the afterlife to not act like an inconsiderate jerk.
All it takes is an understanding that hey, if i treat this person this way, someone else might do the same to me. Treating others in life as you would want to be treated isn't a religious message. Although being a former Catholic myself, Jesus did say something along the lines of "treat others as you would me". I'm sure someone can modify this comment to be 100% Biblically accurate, though.

I try to do any shopping @ The Avenue the middle of the week and in the morning or after lunch because there are so many nasty people. I have a handicapped permit because of my legs and walking can become a problem, everytime I have been to The Avenue someone is taking up at least one handicapped spot and sitting in the car waiting on someone. This really makes me mad, if you are sitting in the car you can wait at a back lot and the person that you are driving can call you when they are done before they leave the store they are in so you will be in front of the store when they come out. I have had to drive around for an hour on the weekends looking for a parking spot because I can't do the walking. People also park in the handicapped spots without a legal permit or tag, or park in the 30 minutes spot for over an hour. I do alert security about these cars and if a person is in a car I will get out and ask them when they will be pulling out of the spot. If they are nasty to me I point out to them that they are parked in front of a store and everybody is looking for parking and it is very rude of them to sit in a spot. If we can my husband will drop me off, park further away and meet me so we don't have to deal with the rude people. Not everyone there is nasty but it seems like more and more people are.

I was widowed suddenly Red and became a single, widowed mother of two, young children with disabilities. While you did mention "not to say single moms can't do a good job", not having a man in the house does not diminish our abilities. It may make it tougher and the days a bit longer, but we can get the job done.
In reference to the incident in this story, I avoid The Avenue (and the horrid mall for that matter) anytime after about 6 PM on any day. I have never seen such, rude, inconsiderate people, foul language to name just a few things I've seen. I try to grab an early dinner and never, EVER even consider going to the movies there anymore. My family values health and parking rather far away is preferable. Enjoying a nice walk with the family to our destination is part of the fun. I am eligible for a handicapped permit but turned it down. I don't need it that badly. I try to enjoy the extra walk and let someone who really needs the spot (like my father did when diminished from cancer and surgery) way more than me. People just need to learn to be more kind to each other and stop being so hasty to fight and say nasty things.

Actually, according to industry studies, Maryland ranks #10 in insurance premium rates. Other factors play into insurance rates besides accidents and road rage. #1 state is Michigan. As reporter Des Toups notes: "Insurance on a 2011 model tops out at an average of $2,541 in Michigan, the highest rate in the nation. Its no-fault system provides what amounts to unlimited medical care, and about 19% of drivers were uninsured in the Insurance Research Council's most recent survey. "Driver responsibility fees" can add hundreds of dollars to the cost of keeping a driver's license, too. "
