Poll: Who Should be the GOP Candidate in the 2nd District?
With five declared candidates, voters have plenty of options when it comes to deciding who will face Democratic Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger in the November general election.
The field for the Republican primary in the 2nd Congressional District race got more crowded last week when Del. Rick Impallaria filed to run for the nomination.
There are now five Republicans vying for the right to challenge Democratic incumbent Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger in the November general election.
The other Republicans in the field include state Sen. Nancy Jacobs and Larry Smith, a former aide to Rep. Andy Harris and lieutenant colonel in the Army. Vladimir Degen and Howard Orton are the other declared Republican candidates.
Jacobs received early endorsements from former Gov. Bob Ehrlich, along with Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold and Harford County Executive David Craig.
But, Del. Pat McDonough called Jacobs “a puppet candidate” picked by Harris to split the Republican vote.
If the Republican primary were held today, who would you vote for and why?
Take our poll and leave your comments below. Remember this is not a scientific poll.

If Senator Jacobs is a "puppet Candidate" picked by Andy Harris.............wonder what that makes Delegate Rick Impallaria.........who was most certainly chosen by Delegate McDonough?

Larry Smith will fight hard to reform Washington from the outside-in unlike the insiders that are trying to fool us into believing they are actually on the outside (Harris,Ehrlich+Jacobs/McDonough+Impallaria). Out of all these candidates Ron highlighted in this piece, only Smith has a plan for the economy, debt, health care reform etc.

JOhn, this state votes name recognition. Been like that for years which is why many of the same ole fleas stay in office. Many die hard democrats and republicans wouldn't cross over to get the right person for the job. A smile and a handshake wins many elections in md. People better wake up and start asking mega questions to new candidates and go here and check out the ones who are in office now. Most often their words don't equal their voting patterns. www.votesmart.org

I don't know about puppets, muppets, or any other nonqualified objects. But, I do know this, Larry Smith is an exceptional candidate who is seeking this 2nd district seat because he CARES about the residents, he CARES about Maryland, and he CARES about the U.S.A.. Larry announced his intentions to run for office in October, not a week or so before the filing deadline or an hour before the filing cutoff. Larry Smith CAN beat the incumbent. Please give Larry Smith a chance and check out his credentials, his ideas, and find out where you can see him up close and personal at larrysmith4congress.com.

Larry Smith definitely has my vote. He's the only candidate I've seen that has a clear plan for where the 2nd District and America needs to go.

I have been getting to know Larry Smith since late last year. I am convinced that Larry is best qualified for the important tasks ahead - to unseat Dutch Ruppersberger and do a much better, and Constitutional, job.

All of the candidates have attributes that would make them a great candidate to face Ruppersberger in November. Its going to be an interesting primary that will help the GOP to grow in this district.
