Essex Crime: Woman, Teen Charged in Attack on Girl

A 16-year-old girl and 20-year-old woman were arrested Wednesday and charged with assaulting a young girl in Essex.

According to police reports, the assault occurred around 9:40 p.m. on the 800 block of Myrth Avenue. The two female suspects had followed the 14-year-old girl for several blocks and verbally harassed her before one of the suspects punched the girl in the face and hit her several more times, accorind to police.

The 14-year-old girl told police she then got up and tried to get away before being attacked again by both suspects, who also allegedly grabbed her shirt, ripped off her necklace and stole her schoolbook, according to the police report.

The girl eventually got away and contacted police, who then found females that matched the descriptions, the report continued. Both suspects were then arrested.

Erica Dillard, of no fixed address, was charged with robber. Police contacted the Department of Juvenile Services for placement of the 16-year-old suspect, according to the report.

Here are other recent crimes reported to the Essex Precinct:

Grovethorn Road, 300 block, between noon April 4 and 8:30 a.m. April 5: Two Maryland license tags were stolen from the back yard of a home.

Delaware Ave., 600 block, between 6 and 9:30 p.m. April 5: A television and a PlayStation 2 video game console were stolen from an apartment after someone kicked in the front door. Total loss: $640.

Pulaski Highway, 11400 block, 3:30 a.m. on April 5: A would-be burglar ran off after a worker of Biggs Distler discovered an unknown male inside the business with a 100-foot section of copper wire stretched out across the lot.

Alcock Road, 100 block, between 12:30 and 3 p.m. April 4: Oxcodone pills, a gold chair, house and car keys and an antique watch were stolen after someone entered a home by prying open the side door. Total loss: $665.

Briar Hill Place, 800 block, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. April 4: About 30 morphine pills and a pack of cigarettes were stolen after someone entered an apartment by prying open the front window.
