Hawthorne is a maggot area for landlords.. Won't call them slumlords because they don't damage their own homes and they get sick of fixing them when tenants destroy. And why does the neighborhood allow illegal aliens to rent there? Who runs the association? Its a felon to rent/hire an illegal alien.. Often too many of them in one home is against the law. Call code enforcement. Report landlords who rent to them. Give them a warning that you will call authorities if it continues.. Trash entices crime. A trash ridden area is a high crime area. I can't stand to see people walking down the street and ignoring trash. Pick it up. When you walk the dog take a trash bag with you. Have community clean up once a month.. Ask kids to join in. They'd love it. Offer them a $1.00 coupon from mcdonalds or a hotdog and water when done. Where is crime patrol? Report drug activity. Much coming and going often is drug related. Keep calling police. You can call annonymous.

amdactivist,

Right on! I bought a house in Hawthorne a year ago, unfortunately. I didn't know about all the renters (and section 8'ers) in the area when I bought. I thought Middle RIver used to be a good area? I didn't realize its not as white as it used to be. Now, if I can ever sell my place, whats the use of keeping my yard nice, if the neighbors have dog crap on their front yard and piles of newspapers on their porch?

Awful people. Get some shame, and have some pride in where you live. Pick up after yourselves.

John, this isn't a black/white issue. Its everyones responsiblity to live in a clean neighborhood. The poorest of people don't have to live dirty. You say "whats the use".. Thats what your neighbors say also. So if you all say "what's the use" then your all doomed.. Wake up john. Lead the pack . Walk with bags in your hand and keep picking up trash. Eventually others will follow hopefully. I make it an almost daily routine to walk the dog with bags in hand. I pick up dog doo doo and trash. I feel i've accomplished something by living on a clean block..

John also you can call code enforcement for shabby homes.. Rotted windows, trash and dog crap in yard etc. and do it annonymously. Here's code enforcement email pdmenforce@baltimorecountymd.gov .. Do a ride by and make notes on addresses and report all of them. This state is broke so they'll appreciate the extra money..

Its just a shame because half the blocks are decent, and I want my side of the block to be that way too. Now I understand why people have homeowners associations. Maybe Hawthorne Community Assoc. Can look into it, and we can bring some of these landlords in line. Thanks for the email link.

Hi neighbors, I also live in Hawthorne on Hawthorne rd. (a one block cul-de-sac) It is a shame the way people live. No respect for themselves. We are underwater in our house. We bought in 2006, we have lost a third of our value. We just spent $22,000 to remodel our kitchen and another $5000 on other upgrades. We pick up trash almost everyday in our neighborhood. Pride still alive. Black and white it does not matter. We are all human beings. RESPECT is what we need! peace
