Dundalk Blaze Injures 2 Firefighters

An afternoon apartment fire on Kavanaugh Road caused significant damage.

Two Baltimore County firefighters were hospitalized Wednesday after battling a blaze in the 8400 block of Kavanaugh Road shortly after noon.

More than a dozen trucks and engines responded to the fire, which was in the back of an apartment building, according to a press release from the Baltimore County Fire Department.

One townhome was destroyed and two others damaged.

The two firefighters were transported to Bayview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Fire officials said the cause of the fire has not been officially determined, but there were possible electrical issues and complications from recent flooding inside the building. A resident inside the townhouse was using a drying machine in the basement when the fire occurred.

"A crew made an interior attack from the rear of the building. There was some electrical sparking, so we had to pull the crew out and go defensive. We attacked from both sides until BGE shut the power down, and then we went back inside the building and extinguish the fire," said Battalion Chief Paul Lurz.

The Red Cross has been asked to assist residents who may have been displaced due to the fire, according to the release, though no other injuries were reported.

Hope the firefighters are OK.

Some great photos and good copy. Another shovel of dirt over the grave of the Sun papers.

It's bad enough you have to wait until the next morning to find out they never covered it.

Patch is the only game in town, hands down. I just hope we don't have a repeat of the flooding this weekend. Those people have suffered enough.

I'm just glad my nephews and nieces are okay. This is their house. I used to live right next door.....

Gina, I glad your family is OK. The damage to their home can still be traumatic. I hope everything works out after this frightening experience.
