'CSI: NY' Star to Visit CCBC Campuses

Hill Harper to speak to students on "Manifesting Your Destiny" on April 13 at school's Essex and Catonsville campuses.

Hill Harper, star of the CBS television series CSI: NY, will speak to students of the Community College of Baltimore County on April 13 as part of the school's spotlight speakers series.

Harper, who is also a known scholar, author and activist, will speak on “Manifesting Your Destiny.”

The lecture is another way Harper hopes to reach out as a mentor and role model for young African-American men and women struggling to find their way in life. He is actively involved in the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program as a volunteer and now as a spokesman.

In 2006, he wrote the New York Times best seller Letters to a Young Brother. He followed this with Letters to a Young Sister and most recently, The Conversation: How Black Men and Women Can Build Loving, Trusting Relationships.

Harper received his bachelor's degree from Brown University before earning a J.D. and master's in public administration from Harvard.

Harper is set to first speak at CCBC Essex's B Building Theatre at 12:20 p.m., with doors opening at noon. He will speak again at 6 p.m. at CCBC Catonsville's Q Theatre, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.

The CCBC Spotlight Speakers Series helps engage the entire college community in discussion of current events, challenging preconceptions and ideas that often hinder intellectual and spiritual growth and development. The events are sponsored by the CCBC Office of Student Life.

The program featuring Harper is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Tickets are available by calling the CCBC Box Office at 443-840-ARTS (2787) or visiting any CCBC Student Life office.
