CCBC Essex Picks Up Key Wins

Women's lacrosse, men's lacrosse and baseball begin push for the postseason with big victories over rival teams.

The CCBC Essex women’s lacrosse team’s dream season continued Wednesday night following a hard-fought 18-14 victory over .

Freshman midfielder (Mercy) scored six goals and had two assists and freshman attack Taylor Jones (IND) scored a goal and had seven assists for CCBC Essex, which scored the game’s final five goals. The came after the Knights jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the second half only to have Catonsville score eight of the next 10 goals to take a brief 14-13 lead.

McBee now has 51 goals while Jones has 23 assists for CCBC Essex (10-3), which entered the week ranked fifth in the latest NJCAA national poll.

The Knights, who entered the season having lost 36 straight games, will go after their third straight win at 11 a.m. on Sunday when they host fourth-ranked Nassau Community College.

MEN’S LACROSSE: CCBC Essex goes after its fifth straight win at 4 p.m. on Friday when it hosts Monroe Community College in a battle of nationally-ranked teams.

The Knights, ranked third in the latest NJCAA poll, are coming off a 13-11 victory Saturday over fourth-ranked Genesse Community College.

In Saturday’s win, attack () scored three goals while fellow attack Ty Kashur dished out seven assists for the Knights (10-2). Also, Neil Hutchinson () scored a goal and had two assists while Zach Gagnon, Ryan Kissner and Rocco Piliero scored twice each for CCBC Essex.

The Knights coaching staff also praised the play of sophomore midfielder Brent Hiken () who won 24 out of 27 faceoffs.

Thrasher entered the week tops among MD JUCO players and is 13th in the nation with 34 goals. Hutchinson has 28 goals while Kashur and Austin Spaulding (St. Mary’s Ryken) has 19 goals each for CCBC Essex. Kashur also leads MD JUCO with 30 assists.

BASEBALL: CCBC Essex continues to remain in the upper half of the MD JUCO standings following its 7-0 victory Tuesday over visiting CCBC Dundalk.

In the win, Manny Prassinas () pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings and Jake Pequignot sparked the offense with a two-out, two-run double in the third inning to break a scoreless tie, as the Knights completed the season sweep of CCBC Dundalk. 

The Knights (18-14, 11-9 MD JUCO) is in sixth place in the 15-team conference. CCBC Essex next plays at 3:30 p.m. Thursday when they host
